DEFINE: ME
Born Singaporean, I grew up in a highly competitive environment. Since young, I've taken competition positively and became a keen learner. I could read Science texts for hours but would struggle with other readings. As a child, I often questioned why Newton's Laws are such and why the skies are blue. On occasional unfortunate visits to clinics, I find myself eager to listen to the doctor's diagnosis. Through vacation jobs, I realised that I'm one who prefers a job that requires interaction rather than a desk-bound one. This, together with my inquisitiveness and interest in Medical Sciences, makes me aspire to be a Physician-Scientist.

Read science text for hours?? won't you find it boring??? It is amazing that you can do that.
For me, since young I am intrigued to no end with the sphygmomanmeter(takes blood pressure) and the stethoscope! Sounds really geeky but that sorted ignited my intrest in life science.
I suppose if you keep up with this keen interest in medical science, im sure you will become a great physician!
Hi Yilin,
You really have great patient to read a Science testbook for hours. I can do it in my earlier years but not now anymore.
Physician-Scientist? Perhaps the Duke-NUS Doctoral degree will interest you.
Good luck in your future endeavour.
Cheers,
Danny.
Just a clarification, I do not enjoy reading texts/articles that were relating to Physics.
I find medical/health related Science very interesting hence enjoy reading them whether or not as an exam/test study preparation. I am intrigued to learn about human diseases and treatment especially despite my seniors relating to me on how depressing such modules can get. I do not find these subjects depressing at all as they are all as a matter-of-factly relevant to us, mankind and it is through such studies that we can devise methods to alleviate and resolve any faults of the human body, no? I am excited to read these modules in my final semester and hopefully gain a deeper understanding if I may pursue higher education (yes Danny, I'm currently looking into Duke-NUS).
Thanks for the encouraging words and should you know of any possible institutes or programs I can apply to, or alternative paths I may take, please do not hesitate to make recommendations or suggestions!
Hello Yilin,
I admire your ambition to be a physican-scientist. It is quite hard to find people with such similar interests now-a-days as the younger generation people are more towards the businessman mindset. Persereve on and I'm sure you will reach your goal!
I guess we 2 are alike. I hate desk bound jobs. I cannot imagine myself, locked up in a stupid cubicle for 8 hours a day for the rest of my life. My dad would call it being shackled to work. Perhaps the change in lifestyle has enabled youths today to venture into different sources of income. In the past, when people came out to work, everyone just searched for a stable job with stable income. Who would have thought of doing something they enjoyed?
Thanks, Yilin, for this clear and concise autobiographical post. You've explained your interests and aims well, and you've stimulated lots of discussion.
I wish you the best in your continued studies and in your walk on life's winding path!
